The star is framed, in the coin design, by two graceful specimens of the flora of Belize?the Angelon/a ciliaris, a perennial herb with delicate ornamental flowers, and the Thelypteris ob-literata, an exquisite fern. The coin's reverse bears the national coat of arms of Belize. This certified First Day of Minting Proof, issued in a sealed cachet, was struck on December 20, 1979. Minted by The Franklin Mint in a strictly limited edition, it measures 26.16mm and contains 6.21 grams of 500 /1000 fine gold. As an official monetary coin it can be spent at face value in Belize.
